Five Friday Faves

Friday is here! I have many things to be grateful and thankful for this week. However, I have to talk about what a wonderful day it has been so far. For starters, this morning, Santosh and I were able to run on the national mall together. Something I would have not thought we would have done when we first started dating. We are both healthier and in better shape now then when we met! Here are pictures from our run this morning:

Following our run, I walked from the Lincoln Memorial to Open City through Rock Crrek Parkway where I had the best breakfast ever! It is one of the greatest places in the city and they make the best lattes! Here’s my view along Rock Creek Parkway and my latte from today:

From Open City, I walked home, in which I reached over 18,000 steps for the day.  What a day and it’s not even over!

On top of this wonderful day, I have the current favorites this week:

  1. Hal Higdon’s Half Marathon Training. I used this training when I ran the Rock & Roll 1/2 in Philly last year and it helped so much! Having a laid out schedule and plan is really up my alley.
  2. The Crow Girl. If you’ve read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Series and enjoyed them, this book is for you!
  3. Boom Chicka Pop Popcorn. I LOVE popcorn. These bags come 6 in a pack so that you can take it to work with you like I do and get to enjoy popcorn all day everyday.
  4. Think Thin Bars. I have a big sweet tooth and these help to taste so good without any of the sugar or guilt I would have in eating them. They have 20g of protein in one bar and are Gluten Free.
  5. Orange is the New Black. The new season is back! I cannot wait to watch it with Santosh. Last time we watched the whole thing in 3 days.

It’s a Maniac Monday…

Ok it’s not really a maniac Monday, only when it comes to the metro. Metro is shutting down parts of every line for the next year (which means it’s virtually impossible to get to work in a decent time) and soon I’ll have to work from home as I won’t have a way to get to work.

Aside from that, I had a great weekend! I went to NJ to see my niece, Haleigh’s dance recital. I got to spend time with my family, which is always great and see my niece dance.

She did awesome! It brings back so many wonderful memories for me of how much I enjoyed it and how I need to find more dance classes in the area. On Saturday Haleigh and I got to paint pottery at this fun place called Family Clay Time, where you paint a piece of pottery and if you want to drink/eat out of it, you have to put it in the kiln. So we will get them in a week. I’m super excited. We both picked mugs. Here they are below:

Who do you think picked the Princess Mug? I almost considered that one.

Once they come out of the kiln, they will be very bright in color and have a nice glaze to them.

I came back to DC yesterday afternoon and immediately went to the grocery store so that I could do… Yep you guessed it! Meal prep!

Now that I have a system, it’s getting faster. Picking what to have for the week usually is the toughest and then once that’s decided, I go to work!

Here’s the finished product below:

This week I made:

  1. Granola Bars (they have become a staple!)
  2. Coconut oil granola
  3. Southwestern quinoa
  4. Sweet potatoes with corn
  5. Chicken Breast
  6. Salmon
  7. Regular Quinoa (seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder and Pink Himalayan salt)
  8. Cottage cheese

Five Friday Faves

As Friday winds down, while I’m here in NJ, here are a few of my favorite things from this week:

  1. Daily Motivational Passages that I read every morning before I start my day.
  2. Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld. She is one of my favorite authors. Great great book that I read in a week!
  3. Pure Barre. I have started going to classes and am loving it! It really has helped a lot with my strength training and running.
  4. Running. I’ve started to run again and it feels great! I am going to start training for the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon in Philly and am beyond excited.
  5. Being able to go home for the weekend and spend some time on old familiar roads like this one:

It’s been a busy day and I am happy to be able to get this post up! Being home in NJ with the family is great!

Five Friday Faves!

Helloooo Friday! I am so happy it is finally here! This week has been a ROLLERCOASTER and Friday could not come soon enough. Here are my Five Friday Faves this week:

  1. My Spinach Smoothie recipe. I’ve been making this smoothie this week to drink on the way to work and I am loving it! Here is the recipe:
    • 1 cup of Spinach
    • 1/2 cup of blueberries
    • 1 cup of protein powder
    • 1 tablespoon of peanut butter
    • Ice cubes
  2. Hiring Cleaners. Once a month, we have a cleaner come to clean the entire apartment. They came today while we were at work. Coming home to a clean apartment is worth every penny paid.
  3.  The Rosie Project Book. I read this book so quickly! It was really funny. Now I’m reading the second book in this series The Rosie Effect.
  4. The Goldbergs. If you haven’t seen this show, watch it! It’s based in the 80’s in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the entire cast is hysterical!
  5. Starbucks Vanilla Soy Lattes. These are my treats to myself in the morning on the way to work. The soy doesn’t make me sick and there is enough expresso to fuel me through work!

What are your friday faves? Share them!

Hellooooo It’s May!

It’s already May, which means it’s my birthday month! I am going to be the big 30! In addition to continuing to better myself, I have a few goals for May:

  1. Run at least 30 miles this month. I am already at 5 as of today.
  2. Find one thing everyday to be grateful for.
  3. Celebrate every day either with a treat, workout or good conversation.
  4. Smile.

Starting off, (since I have three things to catch up on) I am grateful for:

  1. Nieces. This past weekend was my nieces last dance competition and seeing her dance was a wonderful moment for me.
  2. Running. I started running again (hence the 30 miles in May goal) and it has been a welcoming feeling to come back. Can’t wait for races in the fall!
  3. Rainstorms. Last night it poured. I mean POURED. At one point, I turned off the TV and just listened and I heard the rain and it was beautiful. It was nice to just stop and listen.

Moving forward I will post what I’m grateful for and of course include my Five Friday Faves! Can’t wait to see all the things I find to be grateful for. I know this list will be really long.

Below are my proud running pics from yesterday and today (starting off strong!) for my 30 miles challenge.

Trip Recap to Baltimore for Mom’s Birthday

It was quite a week with my allergies taking me down for the count. I lost my voice and wasn’t able to really do much of anything huge in terms of working out. However, that wasn’t going to get in the way of me going to enjoy the weekend with my mother and sister, Alexis for my mom’s birthday!

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency at Inner Harbor  where our view was awesome! This is a picture of the room:

Friday night we went out for dinner and drinks and then walked around the shops at inner harbor.

We gave mom her birthday presents from Kate Spade:

The hotel also gave us complimentary champagne and chocolate to wish my mom a happy birthday!

Saturday we went to this really cute place for breakfast in the city before we went to arundel mills to shop. And shop we did! I got a lot of great stuff for work and for our upcoming trip (my sister and I are going to Jamaica!)

My sister booked appointments for us all to get out hair done at Studio 921 where I actually (after some coaxing) got my hair cut. My hair was so long and in need of it so I had 5.5 inches cut off! Picture to follow.

For dinner, we went to Fogo de Chao which is a Brazilian Steakhouse. You flip this circular thing over from red (shown here) to green and that means bring on the meat! All kinds of meat come out and when you’re full or need a break you flip it back to red!

We had some cake brought out for mom to sing happy birthday to her:

And here is a picture of the three of us (I get my great genetics from my mother as you can see):

Sunday we went to this pub called James Joyce Pub where there was a live band playing. More and more people would sit down to watch them play. It was great! Here’s a snippet of them playing:

Unfortunately the weekends are always too short and we had to head back to get ready for the week. All in all I’m so happy I got to spend the weekend with two of my favorite people in the whole world.
